Do you have your financial priorities right?

Your way of life is about enjoying the things that matter to you most. Most people have some life insurance through their super, however research has consistently shown that the level of cover leaves many exposed to the risk of financial hardship in the event of accident, sickness or death.

Why is this a problem? More than three in four Australians will be diagnosed with a serious illness in their working life1. The majority of us will rely on savings, selling assets in an uncertain property market or government welfare. And a significant proportion of Australians would face financial hardship if they were to have an accident, become sick or die. While most people insure their home and would never consider driving a car without motor insurance, less than a third of Australians insure their most important asset, their income2.

Life insurance provides the financial strength to support you or your family through difficult times. During your lifetime there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll need a hand at some stage. It is wise to reconsider your insurance needs as and when you circumstances change – for example taking out a mortgage, getting married, starting a family or building a business. No matter what your circumstances are, life insurance helps preserve your freedom to enjoy the life you want for you and your family.

For most Australians insurance is very affordable. For example, for a 35 year old male, non-smoker applying for $250,000 of life insurance cover the monthly premium would be approximately $18.70. For a 35 year old female, non-smoker applying for $250,000 of life lnsurance cover the monthly premium would be approximately $14.213. That’s peace of mind for less than the cost of a coffee a day. If you have some existing cover, increasing this to adequate levels may cost you even less than a coffee.
